Fear, Uncertainty Grips EFCC Chairman, Magu After Ekpo Nta Sack
Palpable fear and uncertainty have been reported in the camp of the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC], Mr Ibrahim Magu.
His anxiety, Elombah.com gathered, follows the sack of the chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission [ICPC], Mr Ekpo Nta on Tuesday.
Mr Ibrahim Magu and Mr Ekpo Nta were reportedly caught in a web of conspiracy by the Presidency to sabotage anti-corruption fight.
Reports had filtered out last week that both men will be axed following the discovery, which prediction saw the exit of Ekpo Nta today.
Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, had hours ago redeployed Ekpo Nta to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. In his place, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye has been appointed as chairman in his stead.
“The appointment of the Chairman is for five years, while the tenure for all the members is four years.
"Also, these appointments are subject to Senate confirmation”, a statement from the presidency.
By the directive, Nta is now to proceed to the salaries, income and wages commission as a full-time commissioner.
Magu, full of apprehension, is now all set to be booted out from EFCC barring any last-minute change of mind from the presidency.
It could be recalled that Acting President Osinbajo recently assured Nigerians that Magu will remain the EFCC captain despite pressures from the Senate to fire him and provide a replacement.
Osinbajo said that as long as the President Muhammadu Buhari administration lasts, Magu will continue to head the EFCC.
