Northern Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called Wednesday on the people of Muslims to defeat the Igbo’s. “With an intense and planned struggle, they should force the enemy to retreat toward the point of demise,” he said. A former governor of Jigawa State and Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspir ant, Sule Lamido, on Saturday kicked off his electioneering campaign by declaring at a rally that he was confident of becoming Nigeria’s president after the 2019 general elections. Mr. Lamido held the rally at the PDP office in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state. He had, before the rally, reportedly travelled across Nigeria meeting leaders of the party to notify them of his intention to run for the presidency next year on the platform of the opposition party. According to the official election timetable released by the electoral commission, INEC, campaigns are not supposed to start until later in the year. Former National Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof Ben Nwabueze, has said he will no longer participate in any peace talk unless the Federal Government delists the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group as well as de-proscribe it. He wondered why the federal government tagged IPOB a terrorist group and proscribed its activities for just agitating for Biafra restoration, while groups like Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen, “who have been slaughtering people”, are moving around freely.
