Ortom Tells FG, Let Citizens Carry AK-47 and protect Themselves
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, on the 12th of August Wednesday 2020 asked the Federal Government of Buhari to allow the citizens to carry AK-47 rifles or any type of weapon to defend themselves in these insecurity in the country
The statement read: “Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has urged the Federal Government to grant licences to responsible citizens to carry sophisticated weapons such as AK-47 to deter criminals from attacking innocent and helpless Nigerians.
Gov Ortom made this appeal through his Chief Press Secretary Terver Akase in a statement titled National Security and The Way Forward
“In the paper titled: ‘Insecurity and Governance Challenges in the New Normal’, the Governor said governments at all levels must come to terms with the fact that insecurity is a real threat to development of the country and be willing to sincerely tackle the menace.
“He also recommended adequate funding of security agencies and continuous training of their personnel to enable them be abreast of global dynamics in the fight against insecurity of the country
In the communique ''Insecurity and Governance in the New Normal'' he (Ortom) urge governments at all levels to come to terms with the fact that insecurity real and a threat national development and peaceful co-existence of the people.
And he recommend the Federal Government to improve the educational standard and enhance public orientation campaign or projects of the people particularly among the young ones to be patriotic and better citizens of the nation.
